Abstract: This project explored lesbians perceptions and experiences of everyday environments, focusing on how they perform or manage their identities at home, in the workplace, and on the street. By examining lesbian experiences the research explored how everyday places are organised and appropriated by heterosexuals and so articulate or reproduce heterosexual hegemony. The research also considered how lesbians mobilise imagined communities at different scales from the local to the global, and how they create transgressive space. Particular attention was paid to the way that sexual dissidents develop social networks and to local lesbian cultures.
